Shortly after she was born, Aniyla was diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta, an illness characterized by fragile bones that are easily broken. Though she’s suffered many fractures throughout her life, she’s been fracture-free for more than two years.
Aniyla has a wonderful support system not only at home and school, but also through her medical team, including her geneticist Dr. Gary Gottisman; Nurse Karen; her surgeon, Dr. Miller; and outstanding therapist, Erica.
Because of the help Aniyla received at Shriners Hospital, she is now very independent and walks with the assistance of a walker. At school, she’s very creative and computer literate, impressing everyone with her skills.
