Anushka Shah is a 15-year-old who has Rett Syndrome, Orthopedic Impermeant, and Breathing Abnormalities. She is non-verbal with limited ambulation, no hand use, and has trouble breathing and eating because of her Rett Syndrome.
Don’t let these difficulties fool you though, Anushka has a great desire to learn and study! She goes to school in a normal classroom setting among peers who do not share her struggles. She takes her exams and completes projects with the use of her eyes via gaze-pointing and an eye-gaze device.
Anushka also pushes boundaries by playing music! She got to perform with her middle school band troop playing music with her eye-gaze technology. Anushka excels at everything she tries and has received the President’s Award in Educational Achievement. She also has participated and won gold medal in Special Olympics bowling competition. She plans to take business major in college and help build business helping accessible housing for people with disability. Watch out REMAX! She also cares for others as she has taken part in Autism and Rett Syndrome awareness walks. Anushka has shown that, “All things are possible for those who believe!”
