Austin Barner
Happy, smart, strong-willed, and brave is how 9-year-old Austin’s mom describes him. He’s also motivated to meet his goals, which he’s done plenty of!
Born with septo-optic dysplasia and an endocrine system that doesn’t produce hormones, Austin has limited sight, a weak immune system, and temperature regulation issues that mean a fever can be life-threatening.
Despite these challenges, he recently met one of his vision goals, is reading short words, and knows his braille letters. Austin is working so hard that he’s been able to be integrated into the typical classroom for longer parts of the day and is continuing to exceed expectations. He’s even learned to type on a laptop without braille, completely from memory.
Austin loves to ride horses, go rock climbing, singing, and drawing. He’s also a music enthusiast, and bounces and dances in rhythm with the music. His mom says his personality is infectious, and he brings happiness to everyone he meets.
