Christine Bentrup
Christine is an 11-year-old girl from Festus who is challenged with Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety, processing delay and poor balance. Last year she started participating in equine-assisted activities and therapy at Hawk’s Hollow Equestrian Center. The instructors simplified the teachings for her so she could be successful. Her instructor says, “Christine was a shining star excelling in basic horsemanship skills. She was able to retain an excellent center of balance and communicated well with the team working with her.”
Christine displayed patience with herself, had seemingly no anxiety and was able to complete some tasks on the first try.
By the end of her five-week session, she was able to ride independently. Christine, the daughter of Karen Byerley, is very cordial and polite. Her instructor says that she was always eager to spend time with the horse she rode, by brushing and handing out treats.
Christine’s determination paid off as she was successful in learning to be a true equestrian.
