Jeffrey Vitt
This past year, eight-year-old Jeffrey was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a type of fast-growing, high-grade tumor that occurs in the cerebellum. Because these tumors grow quickly, the only treatment is an emergency surgery to remove the tumor. Jeffrey had a golf- ball-sized tumor removed from his brain stem and immediately started radiation followed by chemotherapy.
Jeffrey enjoys playing soccer and is active in the Boy Scouts and a youth service club through Modern Woodmen. Since his diagnosis, Jeffrey has not been able to play soccer, but still attends every scout meeting he physically can. If he is feeling well, Jeffrey still enjoys the outdoors, fishing, four-wheeling and camping.
Jeffrey’s soccer coach and den leader says, “The stress of chemo is sometimes a struggle but he fights through with a smile and brightens the faces of those around him. Jeffrey continues to amaze me and others around him with how dedicated he is to the scouts, his family and community.”
The Festus community has even been impacted by Jeffrey’s struggle, as he has brought people together and raised awareness of childhood cancer. Jeffrey is the son of proud parents, Jessica and Jeffrey Vitt, Sr. of Festus.
