14-year-old Jonathon Dunn was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was just shy of two years old, right after the birth of his brother, Max, who was also diagnosed at the same time. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and most other organs in the body. Jonathon is responsible for managing his self-care, which includes taking six or more medications multiple times per day and doing the “vest,” which administers physical therapy one to three times per day. Even though he spends quite a bit of his day taking care of his health, he is sure to make time for the things in life he enjoys the most.
Jonathon has played indoor and outdoor soccer for several years and now plays indoor soccer year-round. He also ran cross country which helped him strengthen his lungs. Now, as a freshman at Fox High School, he is taking several pre-AP courses. He is an avid reader and will often stay up late at night reading. Jonathon’s academics are his strength. Like most teens, he loves hanging out on the computer, chatting with online friends and building various cities. Jonathon is an extremely polite, respectful and reserved young man. He is the first person to offer an extra hand, open a door or just “do something” for you. He is always eager to help his family and embraces the role of being a good role model to his younger brother. He enjoys helping his grandfather with chores around the family farm. His entire family is so impressed with his work ethic and kindness.
