Michael Wagner
This 11-year-old boy has been “on the go” all of his life! After months of preterm labor, he was born 3 ½ weeks early. Despite being a happy baby, Michael’s parents, Amy and Glen, noticed he was not hitting developmental milestones like other children. After consultations with numerous physical therapists and physicians, Michael’s family still had more questions than answers.
Finally, when Michael was 7 he was evaluated at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center’s Knights of Columbus Developmental Center and eventually diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Had it not been for the diligence of his parents and the sincere care of the Knights of Columbus team, he and his family might still be struggling.
Today, Michael grows more confident in himself as each day passes. It has not been easy for him to bridge the gap between his social skills and those of his peers. He struggles with social language skills and gaining friendships but his last few years of therapy have given him the confidence to even speak in public, as he is a 2015 Children’s Miracle Network Ambassador. Michael also works hard to focus on his schoolwork. Despite his social difficulties, this St. Louis boy is always willing to share his story and dance the night away!
