Reece Delashmit
Reece’s parents, Rick and Jennifer Delashmit of Belleville, Ill., say that although a car accident may have taken away their son’s ability to walk and talk, it hasn’t affected his courage and determination. This family was changed on May 31, 2008, when Reece was involved in a car accident on his way home from The Fox Theatre in St. Louis.
The doctors told his parents that he would never live a “normal” life with his traumatic brain injury and suggested that he be institutionalized. Well, that was eight years ago.
Today, Reece is 13 years old and he has learned to communicate with a device, he walks with the assistance of a gait trainer and he attends a school where he is loved by the staff and students.
In many ways, his life has been full and busy. He has traveled the world for treatments and logged countless hours of therapy every day after school. Reece’s spirit shines through all this as he always has a happy smile and a kind heart for all of his friends.
