Sarah Fischer
Kim and Joe Fischer’s daughter contracted bacterial meningitis when she was three months old. Little Sarah suffered a stroke, hydrocephalus and many other complications due to this illness. After a three-week stay at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, the Fischers brought Sarah home but with a grim prognosis.
Today, after intense and continuing therapy, Sarah has learned to walk with the aid of foot and ankle braces and is a friendly 16-year-old who attends Ste. Genevieve High School. Her speech is improving and she loves to write. Sarah participates in Challenger baseball, bas-ketball, Special Olympic Games and loves laughing at jokes. Kim says her daughter, like most teenage girls, loves to shop and go on vaca-tion. Branson and any beach are her favorite destinations.
Sarah has a special relationship with her older sister Abby, and longs for her to come home from Southeast Missouri State University on the weekends. Sarah and Abby like to ride the John Deere Gator and sing country songs as loud as they can, reports her mom.
